Process
Manufacturing
- High quality rubber sap is collected in large quantities
- Sap is preserved with ammonia to clear impurities
- Ceramic or aluminium hand moulds are immersed in hot water followed by tanks of chlorine/bleach to ensure purity
- Hand moulds are coated to ensure the latex to hold on to the moulds
- Hand moulds are dipped into tanks with a mix of calcium nitrate and calcium carbonate solutions
- Calcium nitrate helps in coagulating the latex, whereas calcium carbonate acts as a lubricant between the glove and the mould
- Coated moulds are immersed in tanks of purified and warm latex
- Once they are out of the tank they spin to remove excess latex
- Chemical reaction takes place between latex and calcium coated solution, thereby creating a gel-like substance
- The moulds are heated which makes the latex stronger
- The gloves are easily removed from the mould using pressurized air blows
